*This blog post needs/can be/will be expanded once I’m done with assignments, but I feel that I need to share the idea now*
There are two Malaysian girls singing in the US right now, Shayna Zaid and Zee Avi. There maybe more, but I can’t be arsed to google and these are the two names that kept on popping up in my head. Both are talented in their own ways. Shayna’s been in the States longer than Zee, and have released an R&B album as well as an indie/folk EP under her own label. Zee rose to popularity via Youtube in 2008 and is signed to Brushfire Records.
I’m intrigued as to why Shayna is not as ‘visible’ as Zee is. Luck, label, promo, genre or talent? Shayna has the advantage of actually being based in the US while Zee has been in Malaysia until a few months back (oh and she was in the States during recording if that counts).
Here are clips from the girls. Do check their websites out and hey, drop some nice comments or hatemails.

i’d say record label. zee’s with a label that’s owned by encik johnson, which may just be able to push zee’s stuff more out there. heck, the bitter heart vid is directed by people who’s done stuff for the likes of metallica and the white stripes (http://www.mvdbase.com/tech.php?last=Malloys&first=the). talent, well, to each his/her own. i’d say both are talented. that’s where the other parameter comes in – luck.
